Eclectic Excellence at Giacobbe-Fritz Fine Art

The beauty of the natural world lies in the details

When Canyon Road emerged as Santa Fe’s gallery district in the 1960s and 1970s, many of galleries promoted the innovative work of a new generation of artists who saw their surroundings in fresh, new ways and expressed their vision with new aesthetic ideas and techniques. Today, Canyon Road galleries represent nearly every facet of the art scene in America, and Giacobbe-Fritz Fine Art exhibits eclectic, warm, fresh artists, often with a folky sensibility, particularly embracing color and texture. They delight in portraying the world we share.

This late-1890s adobe building houses a truly diverse collection of paintings, drawings, and sculpture, much of it with a regional and traditional approach, including impressionist New Mexico landscapes, a variety of paintings, sculpture and graphics, and whimsical bronze sculptures of burros, bats, and other animals by outstanding emerging and established artists.

Art star Nocoma Burgess is here, obviously loving colorful contrast and historical imagery. His statement is bold, proud, and direct. Craig Blietz’ representational reflections of his rural environment and all the things within this that intrigue him are here a Giacobbe-Fritz Fine Art. His portraits of cattle are classically obvious and beyond beautiful – indeed, they are soulful. You will never look at them the same way. Copper Tritscheller is focused on the “misunderstood animal,” (rats! bats!) and her bronze sculptures open windows in the mind and calm neurosis.

Giacobbe-Fritz Fine Art is classical by nature, but edgy by design. What results is a paradoxical reverence for art with playful earthiness, and sometimes acidic commentary. No stranger to the art life, owner/director Deborah Fritz also boasts GF Contemporary across the street, where she focuses more on modern and abstract works.
