Great Views and Brews at Draft Station

Without question, the greatest invention in the history of mankind is beer. Oh, I grant you that the wheel was also a fine invention, but the wheel does not go nearly as well with pizza. – Dave Barry

Oh, hoppy days! In February 2014, the legendary restaurant group, Santa Fe Dining, opened the Draft Station in the glassy and glossy Santa Fe Arcade directly on the historical Santa Fe plaza. No rookie to the food and beer scene, Santa Fe Dining is well known for its ownership of Blue Corn Café and Brewery, Rio Chama Sreakhouse, La Casa Sena and several other popular New Mexico establishments, and the Draft Station tap room is one part of their extensive participation in craft-brewing growth in New Mexico. There are 14 taps with seven flagship offerings from Blue Corn and Chama River Brewing, but Draft Station also nods to the best breweries in New Mexico by rotating samples from other craft breweries such as Duel Brewing, Second Street Brewery, La Cumbre Brewing Company and Marble Brewery. The current menu ranges from a light pilsner with a quick snap on the finish, to a Russian Imperial Stout from Blue Corn, aged in bourbon barrels for 10 months and fermented a second time with brettanomyces yeast.

True to Santa Fe Dining’s reputation, the Draft Station is not your average watering hole. It’s open and spacious, with a high ceiling and a slight sports bar vibe. There are quite a few big screen TVs to enjoy, but the indoor seating is cushy, the fireplace is comforting, and the art is cool – and these influences push the vibe in an elegant direction. Patrons order gourmet pizza from the Rooftop Pizzeria, as the two establishments bookend the arcade corridor. There’s a classic table hockey game to work off anxieties that the beer and pizza alone can’t handle.

The view of Santa Fe Plaza in the New Mexico sunshine is supreme. Draft Station boasts a huge outdoor terrace and does more than deliver craft beer and superb pizza to plaza-goers – it invigorates the downtown nightlife scene, especially on the celebrated summer nights when the Santa Fe Bandstand summer concert series is taking place.

Beer is universal. With the vast variety of beer flavors to choose from, beer aficionados can discover a style to suit any palette. Draft Station is built by beer lovers, for beer lovers, and for those who want to fall in love with brews. Not sure? Take a taste.
