“All my friends know the lowrider, low-ride-er is a little higher, low-ride-er drives a little slower…” Most of us know this song by War, and if you live in Northern New Mexico, you’ve no doubt seen your share of lowriders cruising the streets. In Santa Fe, you can get a taste of the lowrider culture at the Low ‘n Slow Lowrider Bar in the Hotel Chimayó de Santa Fe.
The theme and décor are inspired by the book Low ‘n Slow: Lowriding in New Mexico co-authored by Jack Parsons and Carmella Padilla. You really must experience the diamond-tuck upholstered seats, walls decked out with hubcaps and creative photos, and tables made of chromed chain-link steering wheels.
The specialty drink menu features old-school favorites like margaritas and martinis with the added bonus of local spirits made right here in Santa Fe by the folks at Santa Fe Spirits artisan distillery. The Wheeler’s Gin Martini not only tastes great but is reported to help with those Juniper allergies! You can also chose from a nice selection of wines as well as draft and bottled beers, featuring some locally crafted options.
The bar menu is southwestern through-and-through. You can get familiar New Mexican favorites like enchiladas or a green chile cheeseburger, but take a chance on the Chimayo Hot Dog, an all-beef dog stuffed with cheese, wrapped in a corn tortilla and deep fried. To top off all that awesomeness, it’s served with the world-famous Chimayo Red Chile.
The Low ‘n Slow Bar is Open on Mondays 2pm to midnight, Tuesday through Saturday 11am to midnight, and Sundays 11am to 11pm. Happy hour Monday through Saturday 4pm to 7pm with specials on wine, draft beer, and well drinks.
Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights you can catch live Norteño music!
