La Fonda’s history is long and storied; it even pre-dates American independence. The property on which La Fonda sits is reported to have had the city’s first inn established in 1607. The ‘La Fonda’ name goes back to the 1800s when it was a favorite stopping point for many merchants and tradesman traveling the newly-formed Santa Fe Trail. The current hotel facility was built in 1922. In 1925, it became part of the famous Harvey House national chain of hotels, renowned for their hospitality and outstanding waitresses. The hotel has changed hands only twice since then, and remains privately owned, currently by Jennifer Kimball and her brother Philip Wise along with his firm, Cienda Partners who are dedicated to maintaining and preserving the glorious style and comfort that has defined La Fonda for four centuries.
